Kidney cancer

Facts about Renal Cancer

  • Renal parenchymal cancer is the most common kidney cancer, accounting for approximately 80–90 per cent of all primary kidney cancer
  • Approximately 273,000 new cases of kidney cancer are diagnosed worldwide each year
  • Patients with advanced RCC have five-year survival rates of approximately 11-12 percent
  • The most recent estimates of incidence of kidney cancer suggest that there are approximately 102,000 new
cases each year in Europe, while approximately 45,000 people in Europe are likely to die from kidney cancer
    each year

Research scope in Renal Cancer

  • A little is known about potential racial differences in tumor biology of Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma (ccRCC)…more
  • Xp11.2 translocation/transcription factor enhancer 3 (TFE3) fusion gene associated with renal cell carcinoma (Xp11.2 translocation RCC)…more
  • Lower plasma levels of adiponectin, and higher levels of RBP4 and NAMPT, are strongly correlated with RCC, indicating that these adipokines could be used as biomarkers for RCC…more
  • Study suggests that nuclear Lyn is a potential therapeutic target for clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC)…more
  • Few reports have provided functional analyses of miR-26a or miR-26b in renal cell carcinoma (RCC)…more
  • In vitro and in vivo results demonstrate that miR-155 functions as a tumor-promoting miRNA by targeting E2F2 in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC)…more

Prevention of Renal Cancer

  • Moderate alcohol consumption was associated with a decreased risk of renal cancer…more
  • Overall, an increase in consumption of 1 cup of coffee per day was associated with a 3% reduced risk of cancers (RR, 0.97; 95% CI, 0.96-0.98)…more
  • Meta-analysis provides strong support for an inverse relation of physical activity to renal cancer risk…more
  • High consumption of fruits and vegetables might be associated with reduced risk of RCC…more
  • Statins appear to be protective against the development of renal cell carcinoma…more
  • Running and walking may reduce incident kidney cancer risk independent of its other known risk factors…more
  • There is an inverse relation of physical activity to renal cancer risk…more
